Our Designer

LinaLama BurganSince an early age Lina was enriched and exposed to an artistic environment, her grandfather was a professional engraver who owned a work shop in Bethlehem crafting products from olive wood and mother of pearl. Lina's mother was a talented seamstress who only sewed for her daughters and home and passed to Lina her lure for fabrics and threads.

Lina grew up with an obsession and curiosity for all arts and crafts enrolling in many art classes learning sculpturing, water and oil painting on canvas and fabrics, calligraphy...

"I experimented and improvised with any type of art I could lay my hands on" she says... Although Lina graduated from University with a Bachelor Degree in Commerce and worked in the Banking System she couldn't keep away from her fervor for arts and started giving voluntary art classes to deaf children in an unprivileged school, then worked as a part time children's arts teacher at a cultural center.

Realising that her passion was always for art, Lina left her job to work as the field production supervisor and later main rug designer in a woolen weaving project for a non-governmental organization working with women in the rural areas of Jordan. "This exposure strengthened my interest and love in admiring, studying and collecting traditional and handmade antique pieces and old Jordanian hand embroidered dresses, head covers and rugs".

Two years later Lina was doing intricate designs of soft products for different craft organization and in 1989 just after getting married decided with the help of her husband Khalil, a civil engineer working in the contracting sector, to set up her own design and workshop place. "This was a dream come true.. Indulging myself with colourful fabrics, threads and trimmings and earn an income from the thing I enjoy most". This challenge brought up ideas of designing, developing and producing items employing local artisans and applying old traditional Jordanian hand embroideries and sewing techniques. "Such new products had to be practical and pleasing to both today's local population and Jordan's tourists whom at the time were not being exposed to true, high quality Jordanian crafts".

Since then Lina has been quite busy with an expanding business and three children Laya 12, Fayez and Yasmina a 10 years old twins. "You can imagine how hectic it was!! And from the first year Khalil took care of all the managerial aspect of the business and later invested and helped in turning my hobby to a reputable project".
